While still hunting a metallic murderer, our heroes blow up a warehouse, watch a parade, and almost miss the grand opening of their new tavern.

When last we left our heroes, they had tracked down the murderous metal man they’ve been hunting to a noble family villa. The villa is owned by the Gralhund family, a family with plenty of skeletons in the closet, and even a few in the backyard. Inside they came upon a scene of carnage and mayhem. They used the confusion to loot the place looking for clues, and to pilfer a few baubles.

They eventually saved the undeserving owners, if only to get some answers out of them. Instead, they just got more lies and deception. And of course, the metal man has mysteriously disappeared. Happy 15th Anniversary to DDO!

DDO is celebrating its 15th Anniversary!! In honor of this event, I have dusted the cobwebs off this blog to celebrate and share my experiences through the last 15 years of playing DDO.

In March of 2006, I eagerly awaited the release of DDO. My husband got his copy and I played on the trial account that came with it. A week later, I had my own copy in my hand and a brand new computer built by my husband so that I could play. This started a journey for us that has brought us new experiences and new friends.

My children were BABIES!!! BABIES!!! NOW THEY ARE TEENAGERS! My oldest was 2 and a half. My younger child was only eight months old. Yes, I had two in diapers. Now I have a 17 year old and a 15 year old. DAMN! I am old!!!

Aarakocra Banned?

Characters that obtain racial flying features have been hounding DMs since early in 5th Edition. The flying Aarakocra race was introduced in the Elemental Evil Player’s Companion released alongside Princes of the Apocalypse (PotA) in 2015. Later that year, the Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide (SCAG) introduced another flying race option: Winged Tieflings. They haven’t really touched the design since, with good reason.

While a creative DM can plan around a flying PC, it’s not so simple when running a prepackaged module. Especially in a restrictive environment like D&D Adventurer’s League (AL).

Historically, players have always been able to build their characters from a selection of options available in the Player’s Handbook, plus one other book. Recognizing the headaches caused by flying races, the AL character creation guidelines (Player’s Guide v 9.2) create a specific ban on Aarakocra and Winged Tieflings.

For most of my life, I have actively avoided PC gaming. I was scarred by bad experiences in the early 90s such as that time when my underpowered 386 couldn’t run Doom at all. Furthermore, I didn’t have the resources to spend thousands on a rig capable of playing modern games.

I’m only in a position now where I can play on PC by virtue of my streaming hobby. Sorely in need of a PC capable of handling my streaming and video editing needs, it just so happens that a video production PC can double as a solid gaming PC.

(Very) Late to the Party with Xbox Game Pass

In recent times, my household received a lovely gaming gift: a trial subscription to Xbox Game Pass. For a month, we had a great time perusing the app’s amazing selection of games and adding oodles of title to our “to-play” list. And we had just as good a time (sort of) agonizing over the lack of time we had to play any of them. C’est la vie. Only then, we discovered that Microsoft had been kind(?) enough to convert our few remaining months of Xbox Live Gold to the Game Pass, and now Game Pass members we remain for a little while longer. If you know the service, then you also know that Game Pass is pretty darn nifty.

It’s been a long time, but after traveling through the level 20 adventure that was 2020 we’re finally back with more Adventure Seeds! This time we pass through druid groves, strange and deranged. Where some seek to restore balance, others have turned to chaos!

As with all adventure seeds, I like to reflect on the challenge. And like most, the challenge here had to do with balancing civilization and nature. Druids are generally hospital and we may call them civilized, but many stereotypical druids oppose industrial civilization. This was a fun lie to toy with, especially when you add in the concept of balance and chaos into the mix!
